Background and Research Question
France was a major colonial power in the world, ruling over numerous colonies in Africa, Asia, and other continents. The 19th and 20th centuries witnessed successive waves of immigrants who were quickly integrated into French culture. The population dynamics of the country underwent significant changes after the Industrial Revolution. The first wave of immigrants that came was from Poland, Belgium, Italy, and Spain. A significant number of immigrants came from the French colonies, including Algeria. Post-colonialism had an important impact on the ways that France understood immigration. The context of immigration has been to welcome workers from countries with identical values. In contrast, the advent of workers from Algeria and Muslim countries was perceived to be a threat due to the different cultural and religious values. The attitudes towards immigration have rapidly changed with the passage of time, as globalization is also a major factor that seems to impact the debates. French society is undergoing rapid changes due to immigration and other external changes, which are also responsible for the changing attitudes. This project will strive to understand the effects of post-colonialism on immigration in France. It will study the ways that France has changed its views towards immigration according to historical and global factors.
Sources and Literature Review
The sources for this project will be taken from books and journal articles related to immigration, post-colonialism, and France. One type of source will be general books on immigration and post-colonialism. The other type of sources will be on specific dynamics of immigration in France and the impact of post-colonialism. The selection of sources is done to derive valid and accurate inferences. Moreover, the diversity of sources is to ensure that neutrality and objectivity can be maintained.
Methodology, concepts, and theories
Research is a process that needs to be undertaken systematically and logically. It needs the use of the appropriate methods that can be used to achieve the research objectives proficiently. Furthermore, it needs to be undertaken through proper analysis and assessment. The methodologies that will be used for this study are secondary research methods. This method uses existing studies in order to identify themes, assumptions, and theories in order to derive valid conclusions. The theoretical literature on immigration and post-colonialism will be studied. The history of France will be studied through valid sources. The findings will be linked through proper analysis and assessment.
Chapter Outlines
The first chapter will introduce the context of the discussion and highlight the research aims. It will introduce the topic and identify the context of the topic for which the research is being presented. The second chapter will conduct a review of the literature on the topic. This review will include a number of studies on post-colonialism, French history, and immigration. The third chapter will highlight the research methodology. The other chapters will discuss and analyze the findings. Each section will identify the main themes and link them with the objectives of the paper.
